The Giants will look to build on their success in 2022. With Daniel Jones quarterbacking them, the Giants reached the playoffs for the first time since 2016, as they finished the regular season with a 9-7-1 record.
Jones passed for 3,205 yards and 15 touchdowns against only five interceptions in 2022 before getting signed by the Giants to a lucrative contract extension. Meanwhile, Saquon Barkley is also still with the team after agreeing to a new contract with New York. As a team, the Giants averaged 21.2 points per game and 333.4 total yards per contest in 2022, 18th and 19th in the league, respectively. There could be an opportunity to shine for New York’s offense against Detroit’s stop unit which was just 28th last year with 25.1 points allowed per outing.

The Lions were a surprise last season, as they went from a three-win team in 2021 to a nine-win club in 2022. They did not make the playoffs, but they turned plenty of heads and created big expectations for them heading into the 2023 NFL season.
Detroit had one of the most prolific offenses last season, as it ranked fifth overall with 26.6 points per game. The Lions were also fourth in the NFL with 380.0 total yards per contest. Although the Lions lost the likes of Jamaal Williams and D’Andre Swift, they added a new face to their backfield with former Chicago Bears starting running back David Montgomery. They also used a first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft to take former Alabama Crimson Tide star Jahmyr Gibbs. The Giants had a poor run defense in 2022 and that weakness might get exploited anew this Friday by Detroit.
