Betting on the New York Giants (+3.5)
Regular season record: 2-6
The Giants are in a deep hole that they currently seem unlikely to get out of. They have already six losses after eight games this season and making matters worse for them is the uncertainty in the quarterback room. Tyrod Taylor is week-to-week with a rib injury, while Daniel Jones is not yet 100% greenlighted to play in Week 9 after missing games.
However, Jones is expected to practice this week, so that’s at least a good sign for the Giants, whose defense might have to do the heavy lifting again. So far this season, the Giants are only 22nd in the league with 23.4 points allowed per game, but their offense is worse with only 11.9 points generated per contest. After seeing Jimmy Garoppolo embarrass himself in the pocket in Week 8 with six sacks absorbed, Giants pass rushers must be licking their chops already.
Betting on the Las Vegas Raiders (-3.5)
Regular season record: 3-4
It’s not a good time to be a Raiders fan these days, with losses piling up for Las Vegas, a team many thought would make a big leap when they acquired Jimmy Garoppolo. Well, Garoppolo just passed for only 126 yards on 10/21 completions while throwing an interception and getting sacked six times for a loss of 49 yards in Week 8’s 26-14 road defeat to the Detroit Lions.
Clearly, the Raiders have their backs against the wall, but they probably could not have asked for a better opponent to face next amid their struggles than the Giants, who are in worse shape than Las Vegas. Say what you want to say about Las Vegas’ offense but it’s got a prettier outlook still than that of New York, which might even be parading a third-string quarterback in Week 9. The Raiders’ defense can take care of New York’s attack, with Maxx Crosby and Marcus Peters coming off solid performances, albeit in a loss to Detroit.
