Betting on the Jacksonville Jaguars (-4)
Preseason record: 1-0
The Jaguars got the job done last Saturday, as they edged the Dallas Cowboys on the road, 28-23. Former CFL star quarterback Nathan Rourke had a solid performance under center for Jacksonville, as he went 9/17 for 153 passing yards and a highlight touchdown. Trevor Lawrence also saw limited action, going 5/6 with a touchdown and an interception.
Rourke’s confidence must be on a high after such a performance, and he can have another good one versus Detroit. But don’t sleep on the Jags’ backfield that generated 145 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 35 carries. Rookie running back Tank Bigsby led Jacksonville with 52 rushing yards on just five nine carries, while D’Ernest Johnson had 31 on five rushing attempts. Then there’s Jacksonville’s defense which had four sacks and forced three turnovers in Week 1 of the preseason.

Detroit is also coming off a win in Week 1. Undrafted rookie quarterback Adrian Martinez gave the Lions a win with a sneak touchdown in the clutch, while the Lions’ defense flashed its sharp fangs in New York’s 21-16 victory at home.
The Lions were just 28th in the NFL last season with 25.1 points allowed per game and last with 392 total yards surrendered per outing, but the Giants were held by Detroit to just 16 points and 243 total yards. Detroit recorded five sacks and crippled New York’s attack, especially in the second half where the Giants mustered only three points. It seems that the Lions are rounding into form defensively, and that’s a scary thought for their rivals, considering how it’s already clear that Detroit’s defense is among the most dangerous on paper.
