By now, everyone has heard of the biggest story in sports this week – that Aaron Rodgers is done for the season. He was not even able to complete a pass before suffering a season-ending torn Achilles injury in Week 1’s meeting with the Buffalo Bills at home.
However, the Jets still managed to beat Buffalo, 22-16. Rodgers is a big loss and his replacement, Zach Wilson, is hard to trust, but the Jets’ defense is legit and probably the best in the entire NFL. Crippling an offense like that of Buffalo’s was a clear sign of how seriously talented and lethal New York’s defense is. The Jets sacked Allen five times and picked him off thrice. With that kind of defense, New York, even with an offense with a significantly lowered ceiling can keep in step against any opponent.
Betting on the Dallas Cowboys (-9.5)
Regular season record: 1-0
The Cowboys looked scary in Week 1. They showed absolutely no mercy in their beatdown of the New York Giants that resulted in a 40-0 Dallas victory on the road. Dallas’ offense and defense hummed at the same time. While Dak Prescott went just 13/24 for 143 passing yards and zero touchdowns, Tony Pollard had 14 carries for 70 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
The Cowboys’ defense registered seven sacks and two interceptions, including one that DaRon Bland took to the house. The Cowboys were expecting to face Rodgers in Week 2, but instead of the future Hall of Famer, their defense will be dealing with Wilson, who looked more like a sitting duck and a deer in headlights rolled into one than an actual quarterback in 2022. Micah Parsons and the Cowboys’ opportunistic defense must be licking their chops over the prospect of punishing Wilson.
