The Los Angeles Rams’ 2022 season could end up being one of the most disastrous in history for a defending NFL champion if they fail to make up for their performance during the final weeks of action.
The team coached by Sean McVay is last in the NFC West with a 3-8 record, thanks to five consecutive losses, and this week they host the surprising Seahawks, who are in the middle of the fight for a postseason berth.
Of course, nobody said it would be easy to repeat last year’s title, but the Rams’ performance has surprised everyone, especially on the offensive side, where they are one of the worst in the circuit.
With Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp injured for a couple of weeks now, that production has fallen off and doesn’t seem to have any hope of revival. Only two teams have fewer points scored at just 178, average the fewest yards per play at 4.6, have gained only 877 total yards on the ground, the second-fewest in the circuit, and have lost the ball consistently at 17 on the year.
That’s why the only hope the Rams have to make up for their season is what the defense can do, the same defense that has had to fight against the current all year.
Before facing Seattle’s good offense they are fifth with the fewest first downs allowed with 200, when stopping the ground attack they allow just 3.9 yards per carry, the second lowest figure in the league, they are third in fewest penalties committed with 53 and in the red zone are the second-best defensive unit by conceding touchdowns on just 42.4 % of opponent visits.

Clearly in Las Vegas people are not betting much on a Rams win on Sunday against the Seahawks, and it is very difficult to believe that a team that has played so poorly this campaign and has five consecutive losses can turn the situation around so quickly.
However, playing at home, where they have won two of their three games, facing a not-so-reliable defense and facing a Seattle team that they have beaten in eight of the last ten meetings, could be a good omen for them.

The Rams’ chances are that their defense can keep the Seahawks’ offense in check and the offense can take advantage of the fact that Seattle has had a lot of trouble defending this year.
Los Angeles is unlikely to be crushed at home and history in these clashes favors them. In the last seven games against the Rams the Seahawks team has a 1-6 record playing against the spread, while in the last 10 games both at the home of the Rams the Seattle team has a 2-8 record playing against the spread .

The Rams may catch a break from their poor offensive performance against one of the top-scoring defenses in the league this year, the Seahawks.
Of course, a win is not guaranteed, but we will surely see an entertaining game considering that Seattle is also one of the highest-scoring teams in the current campaign and its forte is offense.

In addition to being at the bottom of the division, the Rams are four games behind the San Francisco 49ers, who are 7-4 and do not appear to be slowing down between now and the end of the season. In addition, by winning all the remaining games, none of them against the 49ers, Los Angeles would reach nine wins, so it would have to depend on other results and on San Francisco losing four of six games. Ah! Not to mention that the Seahawks are also in contention.

The team’s performance is a far cry from last season and they are closer to being eliminated than to reaching the postseason. If they are not even assured of a playoff berth, the thought of a second straight Super Bowl victory is a dream.
