Betting on the Carolina Panthers (+3)
Preseason record: 0-1
Rookie quarterback Bryce Young had a rough preseason debut in the Panthers’ 27-0 home loss to the New York Jets last Saturday. Young went just 4/6 for 21 passing yards. Carolina didn’t do a fine job of protecting its prized first-quarterback, as Young was repeatedly hit in the pocket. It should get better for Young in the coming games in the preseason, assuming that his protection unit gets it together soon.
“It was a lack of execution starting with myself,” Young said after the game, per AP. “I definitely could have done better and us as a unit all have to take accountability. “We have to own this and get better.” Meanwhile, Matt Corral went 15/22 for 126 yards with zero touchdowns and an interception. He was sacked four times for a loss of 25 yards. Defensively, the Panthers also need to improve after getting skewered for 27 points by the Jets.
The Panthers are 3-2 against the spread in their last five preseason games.
Betting on the New York Giants (-3)

Like the Panthers, New York also lost in Week 1 of the NFL preseason, as the Giants suffered a 21-16 defeat at the hands of the Detroit Lions on the road last Friday. Quarterback Daniel Jones and running back Saquon Barkley did not play, though, with the Giants leaning on the arm of Tommy DeVito mostly. DeVito went 15/24 for 155 passing yards and a touchdown and an interception. He was sacked five times for a loss of 27 yards.
Despite getting banged up in the pocket, DeVito seemed to have gotten a nice confidence boost with the exposure he got. “(Jones and Taylor) told me to take a deep breath and enjoy myself,” DeVito told reporters after the game, per AP. The Giants’ defense will look to take advantage of Carolina’s o-line that also saw veteran backup tackle Cameron Erving exit the Jets game with an injury. Erving’s potential absence will be a big minus for the Panthers.
