Betting on the Las Vegas Raiders (+5.5)
Regular season record: 1-2
The Raiders are coming off a 23-18 home loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 3. It appears that they still have plenty of things to figure out, as they are now on a two-game skid. Even in their Week 1’s 17-16 victory over the Denver Broncos on the road, the Raiders didn’t exactly look smooth. So far in the 2023 NFL regular season, the Raiders are averaging only 15.0 points and 287.7 total yards per game, 29th and 24th overall in the league, respectively.
It is also possible that quarterback Brian Garoppolo will miss Week 4’s game against the Chargers due to a concussion. If he can’t go, the Raiders will turn to Brian Hoyer likely to start versus the Chargers. Whoever gets the starting gig role under center in Week 4 for the Raiders, that QB will have one of the best downfield weapons in the NFL this season in Davante Adams, who just had 172 receiving yards and two touchdowns on 13 catches against the Steelers. The Chargers’ defense has been so leaky this season, so Adams and the Raiders’ passing attack will have to capitalize on that on Sunday.
Betting on the Los Angeles Chargers (-5.5)
Regular season record: 1-2
The Chargers finally scored their first win of the season when they defeated the Minnesota Vikings on the road last Sunday to the tune of a 28-24 score. Los Angeles’ defense was bad again in that game, but Justin Herbert put on a show to ensure a victory. Herbert went 40/47 for 405 passing yards and three touchdowns with zero interceptions against the Vikings, while also getting sacked only once.
Even without prolific pass-catching back Austin Ekeler, the Chargers moved the chains a lot, thanks as well to the likes of Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. Speaking of Williams, he’s done of the season after suffering a serious knee injury in the Vikings game. Ekeler is also labeled questionable for Week 4, as of this writing. Still, the Chargers’ offense, fifth in the NFL this season with 28.7 points per game, is a major threat to Las Vegas’ seemingly faulty defense that is letting opponents complete nearly 75 percent of their pass attempts.
El Jefe’s Prediction on Las Vegas Raiders vs Los Angeles Chargers
Expect the Chargers’ offense to continue rolling against the Raiders, who will also get another big performance from Adams. This will be a shootout that the Chargers will come out on top of when it is all said and done on the field.
Prediction:
The Chargers win, 30-24.
