meeting with Detroit. Garoppolo missed Week 7’s meeting with the Chicago Bears on the road, which the Raiders’ lost (30-12), because of a back issue, and could potentially miss another contest.
If Jimmy G ultimately gets ruled out, the Raiders will likely turn to Brian Hoyer to start for them again under center. The veteran QB was awful in the Bears game, as he went 17/32 for 129 passing yards with zero touchdowns and two interceptions. The Lions’ defense, however, is missing star safety CJ Gardner Johnson (IR) and could be without cornerback Jerry Jacobs (questionable), so there’s hope for the Raiders’ passing attack. That Lions predicament is also huge for Raider wide receiver Davante Adams, arguably the best wideout today in the NFL.
Betting on the Detroit Lions (-8)
Regular season record: 5-2
The Lions got tripped up in Week 7 by the Baltimore Ravens, as they saw their four-game win streak end in a 38-6 road loss to Lamar Jackson and company. Jackson absolutely lit up the Lions’ defense for 357 passing yards and three touchdowns on 21/27 completions. Jackson also rushed for 36 yards and a touchdown on nine carries.
Those are numbers that Hoyer can only dream of at this point in his career, so the Lions probably don’t have to worry that much about the Raiders QB duplicating that feat. Even if Garoppolo returns, his numbers don’t strike fear in opposing defenses. Garoppolo has seven touchdowns and eight interceptions this season to go with an uninspiring 46.5 QBR. The Raiders, as a team, are also just 30th in the NFL with 16.0 points per game.
