Betting on the Baltimore Ravens (+3)
Regular season record: 1-0
The Ravens did what they were supposed to do in Week 1, disposing of the still-developing Houston Texans at home, 25-9. However, it was not a particularly impressive performance for the Ravens, particularly quarterback Lamar Jackson, who went just 17/22 for 169 passing yards, zero touchdowns, and an interception, while also getting sacked four times for a loss of 14 yards.
Fortunately for Baltimore, its defense held up, limiting Houston to only 7/18 on third downs and 0/2 in the red zone. Perhaps the Ravens’ attack will be better in Week 2 if star tight end Mark Andrews comes back from the injury that caused him to miss the Houston game. Speaking of injury, the Ravens will not have running back JK Dobbins for the rest of the season after he suffered a torn Achilles tendon. The Ravens still have Gus Edwards and Justice Hill to lead the RB crew, though. Hill had two rushing touchdowns in Week 1.
Betting on the Cincinnati Bengals (-3)
Regular season record: 0-1
The Bengals had a bad start to their season, as they suffered a 24-3 road loss at the hands of the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. Joe Burrow was clearly not in his best form, passing for only 82 yards (0 TDs, 0 INTs) in 14/31 completions. It appears that Burrow is still not completely over the injury he suffered in the offseason, but perhaps he will be better in Week 2 against the Ravens not because Baltimore’s defense is easy but because he would have gotten more time practicing with the offense by then.
Plus, wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase is always going to be a threat regardless of the result of the previous game. Against the Browns, Chase, who recorded 1,046 receiving yards in 2022, garnered 39 receiving yards on five catches and nine targets last Sunday versus the Browns. Also watch out for Cincinnati’s pass rush doing more damage in Week 2 against the seemingly problematic pass protection of Baltimore after the team had three sacks in the Browns game.
El Jefe’s Prediction on Baltimore Ravens vs Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals slow down Lamar Jackson with an awesome defensive job to get their first win of the season.
Prediction:
The Bengals win, 24-20.
