Betting on the New Orleans Saints (+1.5)
Regular season record: 3-4
The Saints are coming off a 31-24 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 7. They are now on a two-game losing skid, putting them third in the standings in the NFC South division. Since winning two games in a row to start the season, the Saints have gone just 1-4 straight up.
Derek Carr is not producing the kind of performances the Saints envisioned them to have when they signed him in the offseason, but there’s a golden opportunity for him to shine in Week 8. For one, the Colts’ defense is one of the worst in the league. Indianapolis is 31st in the NFL with 27.3 points allowed per game. But don’t forget about the Saints’ defense which could be the real hero for New Orleans. The Saints are top 10 in the league in scoring defense and total defense.
Betting on the Indianapolis Colts (-1.5)
Regular season record: 3-4
The Colts will continue to live or die with Gardner Minshew under center. With Anthony Richardson done for the rest of the season due to injury, Minshew gets the role to be the team’s temporary QB1. Minshew can be pretty erratic, but he can also sling it.
In the Colts’ 39-38 loss to the Cleveland Browns at home in Week 7, Minshew went 15/23 for 305 passing yards and two touchdowns with an interception. He was also sacked four times for a loss of 17 yards. In any case, the Colts have the 1-2 backfield punch of Jonathan Taylor and Zack Moss to rely on on the ground. Taylor is getting his groove back and he just had his best game yet of the season, rushing for 75 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries versus the Browns.
El Jefe’s Prediction on New Orleans Saints vs Indianapolis Colts
