Things are going right for the Saints so far in the Derek Carr era. However, it was New Orleans’ defense that really keyed the team’s 20-17 win in Week 2 over the Carolina Panthers on the road. The Saints’ stop unit had four sacks and a forced turnover against the Panthers, who managed just 239 passing yards and 14 first downs.
New Orleans has allowed a total of only 32 points over the first two weeks of the season. The Saints are also 10th overall with 346.0 total yards surrendered per outing. Do-it-all gadget playmaker Taysom Hill may also see increased participation in Week 3, particularly to help out the Saints’ rushing attack, with Jamaal Williams exiting the Panthers game with a hamstring injury, while Kendre Miller was ruled out ahead of the contest with also a hamstring issue.
Betting on the Green Bay Packers (-2)
Regular season record: 1-1
Even though the Packers were missing a number of key pieces, particularly on offense, they somehow looked competitive in Week 2’s road game against the Atlanta Falcons. Green Bay ultimately lost that game, 25-24, but Jordan Love was able to pass for three touchdowns and zero interceptions. Rookies Dontayvion Wicks and Jayden Reed caught Love’s touchdown passes among themselves, thus offering hope for Green Bay’s offense that was missing in that game the likes of WR Christian Watson, RB Aaron Jones, and OT David Bakhtiari. If at least one of those three returns for the Saints game, it will be a huge plus for the Packers, who are second in the NFL with 31.0 points per game and fifth with a 48.0 percent success rate on third downs.
