Betting on the New Orleans Saints (+1.5)
Regular season record: 2-2
The Saints are on a two-game losing skid. In their most recent game, they lost to Bake Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at home last Sunday, 26-9. Scoring points has been a struggle of late for New Orleans and blame is being pinned on quarterback Derek Carr, who only passed for 127 yards with zero touchdowns and no interceptions on 23/37 completions.
However, the return of running back Alvin Kamara still injects hope for New Orleans’ attack. In his first game back, Kamara had 51 rushing yards on 11 carries and 13 receptions on 14 targets. He could be more efficient now that he’s got some real-time reps with the Saints again. Keeping up with New England’s offense shouldn’t be much of a task even for the Saints, as the Patriots are just 30th in the league with an average of 13.8 points per game.
Betting on the New England Patriots (-1.5)
Regular season record: 1-3
Mac Jones was terrible in his start against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 4. The former Alabama Crimson Tide star went 12/21 for 150 passing yards with zero touchdowns and two interceptions. He was so bad, he got benched by Bill Belichick.
There is no way but up for Jones, though. Plus, he doesn’t have to transform into prime Tom Brady in order to outplay Derek Carr. He is capable of a decent performance just like the one he had in Week 3 against the New York Jets. Defensively, the Patriots can handle the Carr-led attack of New Orleans. It might even get some help from the Saints’ proneness to errors. On the season, the Saints are 25th in the league with 1.8 giveaways per game and 27th in turnover margin per contest (-1.3).
El Jefe’s Prediction on New Orleans Saints vs New England Patriots
Both the Saints and the Patriots have seemingly serious offensive issues. This will be a low-scoring game that will be won by the Patriots.
Prediction:
The Patriots win, 19-16.
