Betting on the Pittsburgh Steelers (+1)
Preseason record: 0-0
Somehow, the Steelers found a way to finish last season with a winning record. Although they missed the playoffs, the Steelers went 9-8 to extend Mike Tomlin’s amazing streak of .500 or better seasons.
The Steelers enter the 2023 NFL season with a more experienced quarterback in second-year signal-caller Kenny Pickett, but it could be Mitch Trubisky, Mason Rudolph, and Tanner Morgan handling the job under center in this preseason matchup versus the Bucs. Trubisky and Rudolph are known commodities for the Steelers, while Morgan offers a bit more intrigue, given that he’s just a rookie. Defensively, Pittsburgh was solid in 2022 and is expected to be like a rock again this year, especially with superstar linebacker TJ Watt healthy again. The Steelers were eighth in 2022 with a +0.2 turnover margin.
Betting on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-1)
Preseason record: 0-0
Breaking news: Tom Brady is gone. With the seven-time Hall of Famer gone in Tampa, the Buccaneers are now left deciding who between Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask will start for them come Week 1 of the 2023 NFL season.
The Bucs also still have John Wolford, but the choice is likely to come down between Mayfield and Trask. Also gone are running back Leonard Fournette and wide receiver Julio Jones. It’s not looking good at the moment for Tampa Bay’s prospects to make the playoffs, let alone win the Super Bowl, but they still have pretty good wide receivers and a solid set of linebackers. There’s hope for the Buccaneers, who were ninth against the pass in 2022 (208.8) and 11th in defensive sack rate (7.09%).
El Jefe’s Prediction on Pittsburgh Steelers vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers
