Betting on the Houston Texans (-3)
Regular season record: 3-3
The Texans got back on track with a 20-13 win over the New Orleans Saints back in Week 6 – just before the team’s Week 7 bye. CJ Stroud appears to be really starting to get comfortable in the pros.
Although he threw an interception versus the Saints, he was still solid overall for a rookie, passing for 199 yards and two touchdowns on 13/27 completions. On the season, Stroud has 1,660 passing yards and nine touchdowns with only one interception. He can shine even more in Week 8 versus the winless Panthers, whose defense has become a punching bag this season. The Panthers are 31st in the NFL with 31.0 points allowed.
Betting on the Carolina Panthers (+3)
Regular season record: 0-6
The Panthers are still searching for their first win of the season (and first win with rookie quarterback Bryce Young). In their most recent outing, the Panthers lost to the Miami Dolphins on the road in Week 6, 42-21. Carolina simply is not there yet. It can’t hang against the best teams out there. Against Houston, the Panthers should do better.
Another player to watch out for over Carolina’s side is veteran wideout Adam Thielen, who is pacing the Panthers with 509 receiving yards to go with four touchdowns. Thielen had 115 receiving yards and a touchdown on 11 catches and 13 targets in the Miami game and he could bore holes on Houston’s pass defense that is just 28th in the league with 70.56 percent completion rate by opponents.
El Jefe’s Prediction on Houston Texans vs Carolina Panthers
Stroud has been better this season so far than Young. He’s got a long way to go before he can sniff elite status, but in this game, Stroud outplays Young and carries the Texans to a win.
Prediction:
The Texans win, 24-20.
