Betting on the Minnesota Vikings (+7.5)
Regular season record: 0-1
The Vikings did not have a very good start to their 2023 NFL campaign, as they suffered a 20-17 upset loss to Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 1 at home. Kirk Cousins went 33/24 for 344 passing yards and two touchdowns with an interception, while also getting sacked twice for a loss of 16 yards.
The star for Minnesota though was wide receiver Justin Jefferson, who exploded for 150 receiving yards on nine catches and 12 targets. Even though they lost, the Vikings outgained Tampa Bay by a big margin, 369-242, so they were clearly moving the chains and were undone mostly by turnovers and lapses on both sides, as Minnesota had three turnovers and six penalties. Those seem to be issues they can fix heading into Week 2.
Betting on the Philadelphia Eagles (-7.5)
Regular season record: 1-0
The Eagles got the job done in Week 1, as they defeated the New England Patriots in Foxborough on Sunday, 25-20. Philadelphia built a huge 16-0 in the first quarter and spent the rest of the game trying to stave off the Pats’ comeback attempts. Jalen Hurts had a good showing, passing for 160 yards and a touchdown with zero interceptions on 22/33 completions. However, he was sacked three times for a loss of 33 yards.
But given the fact that the Vikings were not able to solve Mayfield in Week 1, Hurts, who also had 37 rushing yards on nine carries versus the Patriots, can be expected to have a much bigger outing this coming Thursday in the Eagles’ season home opener. The Eagles are 6-4 against the spread in their last 10 regular-season games at home.
