Even though the Vikings defeated the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field, 24-10, for their third win in a row, they still felt as though they got hit with a concrete slab in the form of the news that Minnesota starting quarterback Kirk Cousins is done for the rest of the season due to a torn Achilles injury he suffered in the Packers game. Without Cousins, the Vikings could be staring at starting Jaren Hall in Week 9.

That’s not an encouraging outlook for the Vikings, but they still have plenty of weapons downfield like Jordan Addison and KJ Osborn, who have both stepped up in the absence of Justin Jefferson. Missing Cousins and Jefferson definitely hurt Minnesota’s offense big time but even then, they might still have a better offense than Atlanta, which is just 28th in the NFL with 17.3 points per game.

The more Desmond Ridder plays, the more it seems that the Falcons will inevitably give up on him. Ridder went just 8/12 for 71 passing yards and zero touchdowns while getting sacked five times for a loss of 36 yards before being benched in a 28-23 road loss to the Tennessee Titans in Week 8.

Atlanta might be better to have Taylor Heinicke starting for the team going forward. Atlanta’s problematic offense goes beyond just Ridder, but the quarterback will always be under the microscope. With that said, there could be hope for the Falcons’ passing attack versus the Vikings, who are second-worst in the league in opponents completion rate (72.16%) and just 26th overall in defensive third-down conversion rate (43.52%).

El Jefe’s Prediction on Minnesota Vikings vs Atlanta Falcons

The loss of Cousins is a big blow to Minnesota, but the Falcons will cough up the ball and hit snags on offense just enough for the Vikings to steal a win in Atlanta.

Prediction:

The Vikings win, 23-20.
