Hugo González has failed to shine in Liga MX after four teams, and his future may lie in Major League Soccer.
The goalkeeper from Club América has had to face many problems throughout his career. During his time with the Coapa team, he had few opportunities and spent most of his time there on the bench. Later he was transferred to Rayados de Monterrey where he had more playing time.
In 2018, the team decided to transfer him to Necaxa and there he also had the opportunity to be in the goal with greater consistency, the loan ended, and he returned to the Sultana del Norte for the 2020-21 season.
His second stage with Rayados was not good, and he had several criticisms for his performance, so the team loaned him to Bravos de Juárez. That loan is about to end on June 30, and it seems that it is not in the plans of the Monterrey coaching staff, so he is obliged to listen to offers in order to continue his career.
According to information from ESPN, Hugo González has received offers from some MLS teams, among which Atlanta United stands out, which is directed by the Mexican Gonzalo Pineda.
But in addition to the Atlanta team, Toronto FC and Cincinnati FC have also asked about the goalkeeper.
Hugo González’s Options in the MLS
Atlanta United is looking for someone who can fill in for veteran Brad Guzan, who has recently been affected by many injuries, the most recent was a ruptured Achilles tendon in his right leg. Given this situation, González could have the possibility of arriving and being a starting player.
With Toronto FC and Cincinnati, the Aztec goalkeeper would not be secured a place in the starting eleven right away, but he could compete for it.
In Clausura 2022, Hugo González played 15 of the 17 games that Juárez played, which ended up being the team with the most goals against, with 28 goals against. Of that total, 24 were with González defending the goal.
Juárez was able to exercise the purchase option after the loan, but due to the goalkeeper’s results, he did not. Now he must find another destination.
