Cam Robinson will remain a player with the Jacksonville franchise after agreeing to a three-year extension.
Some believed Cam Robinson would be out of the Jacksonville Jaguars, but he was tagged as a franchise player for a second consecutive year to ensure he would remain with them for the 2022 season so as to have time to renegotiate the extension. Finally, on Wednesday, it was confirmed that the parties involved reached an agreement.
According to information provided by Ian Rapoport of NFL.com through his official Twitter account, Robinson got a three-year extension for $54 million dollars ($18 million dollars a year).
The deal was not expected to be announced until mid-summer, but it looks like everything went more smoothly than expected and was made official a day before the NFL Draft 2022.
The 26-year-old tackle has started all 61 games during his five years in Jacksonville, although he has not performed as a top-tier tackle. Even though last year Pro Football Focus (PFF) rated him 67.4, that was not enough to stop the Jaguars from wanting to tag Cam Robinson as a franchise player.
The tag was for $16.6 million dollars and that had him as the eighth left tackle with the best contract in the NFL, now we will have to review the other contracts to know in which position he was left with extension.
Cam Robinson as Part of Jaguars’ Offence Investment
The Jaguars have done a great job thinking through their restructuring. On the first day of free agency, they made a lot of signings and much of their budget has gone to players to improve the offense. They now await the arrival of the 2022 NFL Draft to continue adding elements.
The Jacksonville franchise has the #1 overall selection for this Draft and is now expected to add someone for the defensive line, the options are two players at the defensive wing position: Aidan Hutchinson or Travon Walker.
Jacksonville was also said to be targeting offensive lineman Ikem Ekwonu out of North Carolina.
The mystery will end this Thursday, April 28 when they make use of Pick #1 in the 2022 NFL Draft, which will be held in Las Vegas.
