The 2022 Miami Grand Prix ended up being the spectacular event promised by Formula 1. Several celebrities from outside the motorsport environment were present, but important things happened inside the circuit that ended up attracting the attention of motorsport fans.
It was thought that there would be no excitement at the new Formula 1 circuit, due to its design, but in the end, the event delivered on every aspect. In terms of the aesthetics of the circuit and the organization, we can consider that the Miami GP took a perfect qualification. The teams did their job and some stood out for their good performances, but others made mistakes, which were very evident.
Here we tell you what the Miami GP left behind.
Strengthening Red Bull
The start of the season has not been good for Red Bull, but it seems that, little by little, the engineers have found the formula to be able to fly on track. At least that’s the impression given by the RB18 of the Dutchman Max Verstappen who emerged victorious from this Grand Prix, even though he started third.
Verstappen flew on track and was able to overtake Ferrari once again. The Austrian team has been working hard and it shows.
Carlos Sainz’s Return to the Podium
Carlos Sainz came off from two difficult Grand Prix, as he was unable to finish the races in Australia and Italy. However, for this Miami GP, he managed to return to the podium and this allowed Ferrari to continue leading the Constructors’ Championship, although Red Bull is now only six points behind. Sainz is behind his teammate, Charles Leclerc, but being able to be on the podium again will surely give him confidence and make him forget about the past.
Mercedes Improvements
George Russell finished fifth and Lewis Hamilton sixth at the Miami GP, maybe that’s not what Mercedes would like this season, but it’s what they’re getting by with. Although the drivers did not appear on the podium, everything indicates that the work that has been done on the cars is allowing them to gain speed so as to be able to score points.
Alex Albon’s Great Performance
Although things are still complicated at Williams, Alex Albon is doing interesting things on track and has back-to-back races scoring points for his team. Qualifying was not good for Albon, but in the race he did a great job and finished in ninth position, moving up 9 positions, as he had started in 18th place.
Sebastian Vettel’s Crash and Retirement
Sebastian Vettel continues to struggle to perform well in this F1 season. He did not finish the Miami GP because he collided with Mick Schumacher and was forced to retire on lap 53, just four laps till the end. At the moment, the four-time Formula 1 champion is in position #14 in the Drivers’ Championship, with only 4 points.
