On August 4, with the Hall of Fame game, the American football preseason officially begins. It will be an event that will not feature several NFL stars who are still recovering from various injuries and who hope to be ready for the start of the regular season.
That’s why at JefeBet we leave you with a list of the top five names that will miss or rest from the preseason games.
NFL Stars Who Will Not Play in the Preseason
Ronnie Stanley (LT – Baltimore Ravens)
The Baltimore Ravens defensive tackle was placed on the PUP list on July 23 and his status heading into the preseason remains uncertain.
While he was expected to be recovered by early August from the left ankle injury he suffered in October of last year that forced him to miss the season, there is not much more information about him.
Ravens head coach John Harbaugh revealed that the recovery is going as planned, without giving much more detail. Let’s keep in mind that the one-time All-Pro and Pro Bowler is in the midst of a five-year, $128 million contract that he signed in 2020.
Denzel Ward (CB – Cleveland Browns)
One of the Browns’ best players in the secondary is on track to miss the team’s entire preseason after suffering a foot injury during last June’s mini-camp.
The corner, who is the highest paid in the NFL,was placed on the organization’s active PUP list Tuesday and while the two-time Pro-Bowler is expected to be ready for the start of the season, it’s always good to have all your pieces in place prior to the regular round.
Michael Thomas (WR – New Orleans Saints)
While Michael Thomas returned to team practice Wednesday, we’ll have to wait and see how the Saints handle their top receiver heading into the preseason.
Remember that Thomas, considered one of the NFL’s top wide receivers in recent seasons, missed all of 2021 due to an ankle injury.
According to the organization’s account, the 2019 Offensive Player of the Year trained normally with the team and is on track to resume his star role in the offense.
Jalen Ramsey (CB – Los Angeles Rams)
Like Thomas, Jalen Ramsey’s status remains uncertain regarding his participation in the Los Angeles Rams’ preseason.
The stellar cornerback was not placed on the active PUP list by the organization, but still did not practice in full with the rest of the team on Wednesday.
Ramsey, who played the last Super Bowl with joint injuries in each shoulder and underwent surgery in June to repair one of them, should be ready for Week 1 of the regular round.
Chase Young (DE – Washington Commanders)
The NFL will have to wait a couple more weeks to see the return of Chase Young, the 2020 Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Young, the Commanders’ second overall draft pick, injured his right knee ligament last season in November. A rather complicated recovery considering the physical contact of American football.
As a result, head coach Ron Rivera confirmed on Wednesday that the defensive wing will not be released from the PUP list for now. However, this does not diminish the possibility that he will be ready for the first week of action with Washington.
