The New Orleans Saints re-signed quarterback Jameis Winston, this time to a two-year, $28 million deal, according to NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport.
The new contract has $21 million guaranteed, and it becomes a reality despite the fact that the player comes from just seven games last season after breaking his anterior cruciate ligament.
It is important to mention that the New Orleans team made this move after it failed in its attempt to reach an agreement with the Houston Texans for Deshaun Watson, who ended up being traded to the Cleveland Browns.
In his first season as a starter for the Saints, Winston, in his seventh year in the NFL, left very good impressions as the leader of the offense, and the team won 5 of 7 meetings with him on the field. He finished with 59% of complete passes, 1,170 total yards, 14 touchdown passes and 3 interceptions.
Movement of the Saints ahead of the 2022-23 NFL season, after finishing in second place in the NFC South Division, with a record of 9 wins and 8 losses.
Jameis Winston’s NFL Numbers
James Winston played his first five NFL seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, just before Tom Brady’s arrival. Then, he came to the Saints, where he took over as the starting quarterback in his second year with the team.
After 7 seasons in professional football, the 29-year-old records 61.2% of complete passes, 20,982 total yards, 135 touchdown passes and 91 interceptions.
If Winston fully recovers from the serious injury suffered last season, the New Orleans team will have a serious chance of fighting for the title of their division with Brady’s Buccaneers.
