The teams that will compete in the Concachampions 2022′ final are already known. Seattle Sounders will be Pumas’ opponent, after beating MLS champion New York City FC 4-2 on aggregate.
The Seattle Sounders tied the second leg of the Concachampions 2022 semifinals 1-1, but that only confirmed their ticket to the final, as they had won the first leg 3-1.
Seattle Sounders visited New York City FC at Red Bull Arena on Wednesday, April 13 to determine the remaining ticket to the Concacaf final. In the 27th minute, Peruvian Raúl Ruidíaz gave the visitors the lead with a shot from half distance that the goalkeeper couldn’t stop.
With that goal, the New York team’s hopes had collapsed, but in the 51st minute, Santiago Rodríguez gave them hope when he scored the equalizer, which reduced the aggregate score.
It was a hard fought match from start to finish and although NYC FC had clear chances on several occasions, they simply could not score and the scoreboard remained unchanged.
Finally, it will be the Seattle Sounders who will face Pumas UNAM in the final of the 2022 Conchampions, in search of a ticket to the Club World Cup as representatives of CONCACAF.
When will the 2022 Concachampions final be held?
The 2022 Concachampions final will be played over two legs. The first leg clash between Pumas and Seattle Sounders will take place next Tuesday, April 26 in Mexico City at the Estadio Olimpico Universitario. Everything will be defined, though, in the second leg which takes place on Tuesday, May 3 at Lumen Field, the home of the Seattle team.
The MLS team will seek to end the dominion exerted by Liga MX clubs in the tournament organized by Concacaf, and to become the first Major League Soccer team to attend the Club World Cup.
Pumas, on the other hand, are in a new international final after 17 years, and will attempt to end their title drought.
