Tigres vs Bayern Munich was scheduled to take place this summer, however, plans changed due to the World Cup and it is now estimated that the friendly match between the Mexican team and the German team will not be held until next year.
Almost over a month ago, rumors began to circulate about the possibility of a Tigres vs Bayern Munich rematch in Mexican territory in the summer, and even Mauricio Doehner, Tigre’s director, made statements confirming that the team from Monterrey was indeed planning to hold the match against the Teutons:
“It is a dream we have, we are studying the possibility, it would be something very cool. After the Club World Cup Final we deserve a rematch”. Tigres vs Bayern Munich was the final of the 2020 edition of the Club World Cup. It was played on February 11, 2021 in Qatar and the victory was in favor of the German team by a score of 0-1, with a goal by Frenchman Benjamin Pavard.
After participating in the final of the Club World Cup, Tigres became the Liga MX and Concacaf club with the best performance in the tournament.
From that moment on, the university team was left with a thorn in its side, after being close to winning the first title for a CONCACAF representative in the competition against the European champions. With fond memories of that match, the Monterrey board of directors set about the task of finding a friendly match against Bayern and offering their fans a show against a top-level rival at the Estadio Universitario.
Why Had the Tigres vs Bayern Munich to be Postponed?
When negotiations began for this Tigres vs Bayern Munich exhibition game, the fact that 2022 is a World Cup year was not taken into account, and although the Qatar 2022 World Cup will not be held between June and July, but in November and December, the calendar could be very tight, so it was considered that the match should be played in 2023.
According to unofficial information, both teams are looking to reschedule the match, but there is no tentative date for now. Nonetheless, it appears that there will be a Bayern Munich presence in Monterrey this year, as the FC Bayern Munich Youth Cup is expected to take place, and one participating team will be sponsored by Tigres.
