Marcelo was sacked from the French club, where he spent five seasons, for an alleged indiscipline issue, but you won’t believe the real reason why the Lyon side made that decision.
A few months ago, news broke that Brazilian defender Marcelo, who since 2017 has been a member of Olympique Lyon’s Ligue 1 was dropped from the first team and relegated to the reserves for alleged indiscipline, but recently, L’Equipe revealed the real reasons that led the Lyon side to part with the 34-year-old South American defender.
The French league team tried to explain the situation they faced with Marcelo as subtle as possible, and in their press release they said that the player had an “incident in the locker room.” But, finally, the press was the one who declared that the Brazilian was separated from the team for “farting in the locker room and laughing with his teammates.”
Yes, just as you’re reading it, the defender would let out flatulence and then laugh with his teammates about it.
You could say that farting is a normal and sometimes uncontrollable bodily function, but it seems that what Marcelo did was a bit more serious.
What happened with Marcelo occurred in August 2021, when the team lost by a score of 3-0 to Angers, with the defender even scoring a goal.
In the communiqué of the Olympique de Lyon, although the reason for the separation was not specified, it was stated that they were annoyed by Marcelo’s attitude.
“The inappropriate behaviour of Marcelo in the locker room after the match in Angers justifies this decision, which was taken unanimously by Olympique Lyonnais’ management team. The player was briefed on this decision yesterday afternoon by Juninho and Peter Bosz. Olympique Lyonnais’ management reiterates that all of its players must demonstrate an unwavering mindset and a commitment to quickly return to recording results in line with the club’s ambitions.”

Former England footballer Gary Lineker was upset on his Twitter account when he heard about what happened to the Brazilian, and said that he would be suspended for life for relieving himself on the pitch.
Earlier this year, Marcelo joined Girondins de Bordeaux, also in Ligue 1, and has been playing a role, although the team is in last place overall.
We hope that at least he has learned his lesson and does not fart in this locker room.
